Meet Our Staff

Craig is the master mind behind Penwell Insurance. Back in 2005, he worked in the health insurance industry and had a vision to switch to Property and Casualty Insurance. He came up with a mission and vision statement. Craig opened Penwell Insurance in 2005 in his adopted hometown of Cicero, Indiana. It led him on an amazing path to what Penwell Insurance has become today. He has developed a team that he considers family, who each care with every inch of their heart about every single customer… yes, even the ones that don’t always understand how insurance works. Craig handles the larger commercial accounts and the higher end customer service commercial servicing. He also is the backbone of the agency like you see in many small businesses. Craig graduated from Brownsburg High School, followed by Purdue University in 1999 where he met his wife and future business partner, Heather Penwell. Craig’s biggest joy in life comes from watching his two daughters grow up. He is a Certified Insurance Counselor with 15 years insurance experience. He currently serves on the board of Professional Insurance Agents of Indiana has previously served on the board of Janus Developmental Services, the board of Hamilton North Chamber of Commerce and the Cicero Town Council. When outside the office Craig’s passions include spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and spending time on Morse Reservoir.

Heather is our Life Sales Consultant and Marketing Manager. She’s had experience in multiple roles and fills in wherever needed so don’t be surprised if she answers a customer service call. Heather grew up in Peru, Indiana, attended Maconaquah, and graduated from Purdue University where she was a member of Ann Tweedale Cooperative. Heather joined her husband, Craig Jr. at Penwell Insurance in March of 2009. They both believe in family first in the workplace, working hard to accomplish customer goals, educating clients so they can make informed decisions, embracing technology, and trusting in God to guide them. Heather’s biggest enjoyment in life is hanging with her family. She also enjoys stargazing, water activities, and grilling out with friends.

Kara is the Customer Consultant Manager. She takes on all new customer calls, provides insurance program reviews, and educates customers so they can make decisions that they think are best. She realizes that everyone is unique and customizes each person’s program to fit their needs. She manages the service department and ensures that service is unlike you have ever experienced from an independent insurance agency. She started working for Penwell in August of 2019 after being home with her daughter for 10 years. She has a passion for people and learning new things. Kara also has a passion for cake decorating and enjoys making cakes in her spare time. Some of Kara’s other favorite things to do outside of work are hanging with her daughter, husband and pets, being outside and boating.

Christy has been with Penwell Insurance since 2013 and helps customers connect with their insurance adjuster. She helps from the moment someone thinks they might have a claim to the time the claim is closed, always listening and making sure communication is taking place, and that answers are being provided. Christy graduated from Ball State University in Graphic Design and Marketing. She has 17+ years in the design and marketing industry. As well as being a full time mom, she freelances in graphic design for small companies and sells home decor with her sister that was created out of reclaimed wood. When not working or spending time with her husband and kids, she enjoys being outside, walking trails, golfing and antiquing.
